Welcome, Chieftains, future Chieftains, and our Palma Community. Palma is a school that can change the course of your life. Our private, independent school status allow for opportunities that are not available at most other local schools. As with all things, you will get out of Palma what you put into it. You are encouraged to take advantage of all the experiences available here. They are designed to fulfill our mission to provide you an excellent college-preparatory education and promote growth spiritually/morally, intellectually, physically and socially.
The Director of Student Life plays a vital role making sure students are mindful of their schedules, coordinating campus events and activities, and ensuring that all students are holding themselves to the highest standard. These duties contribute to the overall atmosphere of school, creating a campus culture in which students can pursue their education in a supportive and protected environment.
The Director of Student Life also ensures students are following campus rules. Disciplinary rules are in place to foster mutual respect between students and members of the faculty and staff. Good conduct, courteous behavior, and respect for the rights and property of others are pillars of the disciplinary code, and ensure a safe, secure and efficient environment for all.
A Palma student is expected to live and respond according to Christian values in both individual and community matters (ISOs). They are expected to demonstrate integrity and honesty in all work. Cheating and plagiarism will not be tolerated at Palma. Cheating is defined as the act of obtaining or attempting to obtain credit for academic work by use of any dishonest means. Plagiarism is defined as the act of presenting ideas, words, or specific substance from another and offering them as one’s own work, without giving credit to the source.
Cheating and plagiarism represent a violation of mutual trust and respect. A student who cheats or plagiarizes will be confronted by their teacher or a staff member along with the following consequences:
notification to parents and a possible penalty to student’s academic record (i.e. 0% on the assignment);
teacher will file a report with the Academic Vice Principal;
a filed report will trigger the student’s automatic disqualification for eligibility for the Presidential Award upon their senior year; and
the second incident of cheating or plagiarism may cause a student to be referred to an Academic Integrity Board hearing and may result in permanent expulsion from the Palma community.
The purpose of the Disciplinary Board is to:
provide a system that allows for teachers and students to work together to achieve academic integrity;
evaluate cases of reported cheating and plagiarism, and suggest consequences;
keep records of offenders; and
make recommendations to the Principal of consequences to the student and/or counseling for the student.
The Director of Student Life determines the membership of the Disciplinary Board.
